A conversation with President Hopey
Since 2010, President Christopher Hopey, Ph.D. has led Merrimack College through a period of unprecedented growth and transformation. On the occasion of the College’s 75th anniversary, he shared his thoughts on the recent history of Merrimack, and its future.
On his proudest accomplishment:
“The most joyous part of being president has been seeing talented people perform, grow and succeed.”
On Augustinian values:
“In many ways, the Augustinian values boil down to seeking truth and justice, and helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves. I think we’re living those values. And I think those shared values help bring us together as a community.”
On what makes Merrimack great:
“There’s a momentum here that few places have, and I think you can sense it when you’re on this campus. That’s why the students come, and that’s why the staff stay.”
On the growth of Merrimack:
“There are very few institutions that have done what Merrimack has done in the last decade: jump into a new category of classification (with the introduction of graduate programs) and position itself as a highly desirable school in such a short period of time.”
